Food, Drink, and Sunscreen

High protein snacks

Such as nuts, dried fruits, protein bars, sandwiches, etc.

Water

Bring 32 fl. oz. for each hour of moderate activity.

Sunscreen

At 9,000 feet elevation you are much closer to the sun than at sea level. This means your sun exposure is much more intense. Always bring sunscreen and use discretion when it comes to SPF.

Clothing and Backpack

Hiking boots

Hiking boots are by far one of the most important pieces of gear for a hiker. Waterproof hiking shoes are best.

Clothing

Clothing for different weather such as ponchos, sweaters, UV shirts, etc. Clothing for different activities such as kayaking, paddleboarding, rock climbing. Use your discretion.

Backpack

Camelbak with a water reservoir would be the best backpack, but any backpack can work.

Leave no Trace

Leave no trace is an ethic, a belief, a state of mind, and a way of existing in the world where we respect our surroundings and are making positive decisions that create an environment we wish to live in.

Pack it in/Pack it out

”Go” before you go

Use bathroom facilities at your home base before heading out so as to try and avoid having to go while exploring.

Stay on marked trails

Stay on marked trails to prevent decades of damage to our delicate ecosystem. Keep singletracks single.

Leave what you find

Be fire wise

Weather

SUNSCREEN

Weather can change at any minute in Colorado

Watch the forecast and use your discretion.

Animals (Yours and Wildlife)

Double check with us that pets are welcome to the activity

Dogs are almost always welcome on the trails in Grand County with the use of a leash. Please be sure to bring bags to pack out dog (or human) waste.

Most wildlife naturally avoids humans

As you explore watch for animal tracks and droppings

If you come across wildlife, remain calm, always walk, don’t run

Running away from wildlife screams "prey".

Do not disturb wildlife

Stay far away and take photos, if need be.

Trail etiquette

If there is an animal on the trail you are not able to go further until that animal moves on.

NEVER feed wildlife
